Iconography of tv news - News At 10 - 2009

The starting sequence starts straight away with a loud bell sound alarming us that it is 10 o-clock news, this draws the viewers attention, then it goes on to show a brief part of a important story which will be presented later in the show. After the brief version of the important story the news at 10 theme starts with the upbeat music and rushing/smooth computer graphics, this may give the impression that they are bring the news to you fast and efficiently. The sequence goes the London and through the London eye then end up coming to a holt at the face of big ben which is a phallic symbol. This tell the audience that its on time because they are using the time from a trustworthy landmark attraction which everyone knows about. After this shot it cuts to the studio where another loud bell sound alarms the audience telling them that the news is about to be presented.

As you can see from the start they have kept it very similar from 1998, however the computer graphics have been upgraded, therefor apart from the crystal clear graphics the main concept has stayed the same, it starts with rushing graphics or camera movements and ends up on a clock face. it has the following transparent objects, clocks, landmarks from cities, phallic symbols, male voice overs  Beauty  fast-paced music often brass instruments, rushing camera graphics or camera movements, technology, eyes, the world from space and satellites. the whole starting sequence is the same through all the years, however the the technology has advanced and therefore gives us this feeling that's its very fast, clear and always on time.

After the alarming bell sound is starts to pan in towards the presenters as they speak. this may connect with trying to draw the viewers attention, and this tries to draw the viewers by using the camera movement. when the camera stops moving and we are close to the presenters it cuts straight away to the news stories which will be coming up later on.

This may connect with trying to draw the viewers attention, and this tries to draw the viewers by using the camera movement. The male leans forwards when talking and holds his hands together as if to say "i have important new for you." the presenters are very well dressed which tell us they are reliable and are serious about what they do, however the female is a bit more glamoured up and not as old, i think this is because a nice welcoming face keeps the viewers intrigued. When the camera stops moving and we are close to the presenters it cuts straight away to the news stories which will be coming up later on.

At the start of each of these "coming up stories" the same alarming bell noise is played as each one pops  up on screen, i think this is to refresh / alarm the viewers on the individual stories which will be coming up in the news.

After they have told the audience about the stories which are coming up the camera cuts to the studio and the camera glides from the right to the left as some more upbeat music is playing, the the camera stops, another alarming bell sound is played as the camera cuts to a close up of the presenters face as he presents the news.

The Mise-En-Scene of the studio is very calm due to the all the blue lights and the blue platform which they present on, also the London city is behind them which looks peaceful from where they are, all the blue colours are nice relaxing colours which helps people to relax and listen to the news after there day at work. also the studio is very big and the desk is too, however it is very tidy and clean which tell the audience they are very organised and they are only there to present you the news you want to hear.
